I love disney and i really am interested in the program. But i want to know if its really a great experience or if its not as great as it sounds, from the people who have already done it. I'm interested in doing the program next summer.Has anyone participated in the Disney world college program?
I worked in 2006 and it was the best thing I ever did.
I always had plenty of money, and you can too if you manage it wisely. I made $6.50 an hour but it's gone up from then. You also have to work "interesting" hours- some people get night shifts that can go on to 3AM, everybody works weekends, everybody works holidays (I still had a great Christmas- I ate Cap'n Crunch Christmas cereal and watched movies. We had a tiny little plastic tree and everything.)
You don't get a lot of say in where you work, who you work with, or who you live with, so chances are you're going to meet some people you can't stand. It happens everywhere, though. If you go in with a good attitude it should be a lot better than if you don't. It sounds sappy, I know, but it's true...
The jobs are okay, same type of stuff you would do anywhere else (cleaning up, serving food, and so on) and the people are the same (ranging from super-nice to evil and nasty) so...
The rooms are nice, too. I think they're huge, but other people complain about how tiny they are. It depends on what you're used to, I suppose.
You can ask me anything you want to know. I'll answer... well, if not objectively than at least honestly.Has anyone participated in the Disney world college program?
I participated in the college program from January to May of 1997. I'm sure there have been a ton of changes since then but the fundamental reason most people say they enjoyed their CP experience, has not.
If you want a job that is technically just as crappy, and pays just as little as any mall job you might take back home, BUT do it in a place that people struggle and sacrifice just to visit a few times during their lives, and you get to spend all your days off at enjoying for free while working with, and becoming friends with, a diverse group of people, from old ladies who don't speak any English, to Disney geeks who can repeat the entire monorail spiel from memory, to good looking neighbors (or roommates, depending on what you're into) you will likely hook-up with, then I say go for it!
Besides, when they tell you the WDW College Program looks good on a resume post college, they're not kidding. I have been in my career for a decade now, worked for 4 different companies and I can honestly say, my Disney experience got me interviews for jobs and/or organizations I was not good enough for.
Good luck!Has anyone participated in the Disney world college program?
the pay is min.wage and they take out payment for your dorm room. so you are not going to be making any real money. You work where they say. You don't have much of a choice.
but you are working at Disney. And if you want to work there is the future this is a good first step, and as stated above, it looks great on a resume.
