The only really scary American movies I've watched were The Sixth Sense, The Grudge, and the Exorcist.

You were scared by the Sixth Sense? I am not sure it was designed to be a scary movie. It's only people who are Asian, or obsessed with Asian culture who make this claim, and they make it way too often. I've seen a lot of Asian horror movies, and all they have is young girls trying to kill people. I saw one movie where some dead wife was locked in a wall, and prevented her husband from murdering again through her paranormal actions.
