Why do american movies have problems portraying Irish accents ?

I mean I cringe in utter disgust watching some actors that try and pull irish accents.Why bother.Its unbelieveable.Does anyone know any non irish actors that pull a good accent in a american movie?Why do american movies have problems portraying Irish accents ?Patches O'Houlihan from Dodgeball!

edit: and for people saying british people can't do american accents, how about christian bale in Batman Begins? After seeing that movie I had no idea he wasn't American, then I saw The Prestige (very good movie)Why do american movies have problems portraying Irish accents ?
Didn't Cate Blanchett play an Irish role at one point? She was pretty decent. (I know she's not American) I guess that's the same as asking why can't any other nation play americans correctly or something like that.

If you hate it, DON'T watch RONIN, I'm American and I cringed. That was the WORST Irish accent I have EVER heard in ALL of my life. I hate that movie because of it.
